Changes in the American work schedule--with many people working significantly more or fewer hours than they'd like--put strains on family life, according to a panel discussion at the American Sociological Association's annual conference in August.
The pace of work has increased because of changes in jobs, said David Maume, a sociology professor at the University of Cincinnati. "It's not so much all in your head," he said. "People are really being not just overworked but also overpaced."
