Fortune 500 companies with the largest percentage of women on their boards of directors and as corporate officers achieve higher financial performance, according to a study released by Catalyst, a group dedicated to expanding opportunities for women in business.

The study also found that the number of women on a company's board is directly related to the future number of women in senior management, similar to the findings about women trustees in higher education.
