Software hosting and infrastructure specialist Savvis plans to jump into the Software as a Service (SaaS) business, using software from virtualization and automation software provider Parallels to create a SaaS hosting platform and enablement offering.
Savvis' new offering is designed to enable independent software vendors (ISVs) to convert single-tenancy applications to operate in a SaaS environment without having to re-architect their software. To do that, Savvis' says, it's combing its existing global hosting and network infrastructure with Parallels' "Virtuozzo Containers" virtualization and Parallels "Automation" software.
Savvis says its new offering will consist of a trio of services:
>>Core Infrastructure Services - Savvis' core managed hosting and security elements tailored to SaaS vendor needs. New services include multi- tenancy enablement, application fire-walling, and holistic application-centered service level agreements.
>> Lifecycle Services - A new category of services from Savvis, which assists ISVs through all the tasks involved in development, integration, delivery and operation of their applications.
>>Savvis Marketplace - Services that create connectivity and commercial opportunities between Savvis customers by lowering integration barriers.
