Actuate Corporation and Webalo Inc. inked a deal in which Actuate will resell Webalo's "Mobile Dashboard" as part of a mobile solution to deliver e.Spreadsheets and Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT) reports directly to BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Palm, Symbian, or Java-enabled smartphones.
The Calif.-based Actuate will sell the customized mobile product directly to its customers, which include Concert Communications Systems, Orange, France Telecom, Yahoo! and Verizon Business.
"No longer will e.Spreadsheet and BIRT report users be limited by 'office only' access. Actuate's mobile solution with Webalo service will allow BIRT reports to be sent directly to mobile devices," Actuate says. "Additionally, the solution will provide users of Actuate e.Spreadsheet with a simple wizard to configure their reports for mobile devices. Actuate will embed Webalo's Mobile Dashboard into its mobile solution, ensuring that customers can deliver up to date content into the hands of mobile users."
The Webalo Mobile Dashboard Service -- available both as a hosted service and as a behind-the-firewall appliance -- reportedly lets non-IT business administrators specify the content of mobile-accessible information, and the companion Webalo Proxy Server configures it to conform to the native user interface of any BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Palm, Symbian, or Java-enabled smartphone. Software vendors and system integrators such as Actuate, IBM, Nokia, and RIM are working with Webalo to enhance both their service oriented business applications and their mobile devices.
"We've been pleased with our long association with Actuate," comments Webalo President & CEO Peter Price. "Integrating our Mobile Dashboard into their mobile solution offering will facilitate almost ubiquitous delivery of high- value business intelligence to an ever expanding universe of mobile devices."
Adds Nobby Akiha, Actuate's senior vice president/marketing, "Webalo's Mobile Dashboard makes it possible to extend nearly any enterprise application for mobile use."
