SIR: Bravo, Frank Pulsford. Bravo, Quadrant. Your explanation of the bogus dating game (Letters, June 2008) is spot on.

Surprised at the use of these symbols by the National Library at an exhibition some years ago, I wrote objections in the comments book, doubtless to no avail.

My surprise was because of a much earlier experience, in the 1950s, when the Pergamon Museum in the "German Democratic Republic" captioned its exhibits "vuZ" (before our era) and "uZ" (during our era).
