LAS VEGAS -- The true risk of an allergic reaction to a metal implant or cardiac stent is unknown but it is probably low, Dr. Joseph Fowler said at the Fall Clinical Dermatology Conference.
For patients with a positive patch test to a particular metal, the risk of developing dermatitis from an implant made of that metal is probably less than 1%. Usually the dermatitis responds to topical treatment; removing the implant is rarely necessary, Dr. Fowler said.
