NEW ORLEANS -- Accreditation of fellowship programs in dermatology's new surgery-related subspecialty, procedural dermatology, will soon be underway.
The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Residency Review Committee for dermatology will begin reviewing program applications in March 2004. The first programs receiving provisional accreditation will begin in July, Dr. Randall K. Roenigk said at the joint annual meeting of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology (Mohs College). Dr. Roenigk is incoming chair of the Residency Review Committee (RRC), as well as chair of the subcommittee on procedural dermatology.
In a move that Dr. Roenigk says established dermatology as a medical and surgical specialty, the ACGME in February approved the new subspecialty and voted to begin accrediting procedural dermatology fellowship training programs.
