A South African judge noted for her leadership of the United Nations' International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) was the joint recipient of the Women's Rights Prize of the Peter Gruber Foundation this fall. Navanethem Pillay, along with an umbrella organization of Rwandan women's groups, was honoured for advancing the cause of human rights for women and for working to assist women who survived a genocidal war.
