The 15 models we tested guzzle almost as much electricity as a full-sized model yet hold only 10 to 25 percent as much. None was tops at both refrigerating and freezing. To get the most for your dollar, consider these tips:
Choose the biggest if you can. Sizes include tall (4 cubic feet plus), medium (2 to 3 cubic feet), and small "cube" models (less than 2 cubic feet). But unless small size is critical, we'd opt for a tall model. The Frigidaire FRC05L5D[B],$150 was best in our tests; it has been discontinued but might still be in stores. Also consider the tall Haier HNSE05[B], $150, and the GE Spacemaker GMR04AAM[BB], $160.
