Schoolchildren and a team of volunteers say they are spotting more than 20 motorists an hour speeding through three busy streets.

For the past four weeks, residents in Kelmarsh Avenue, Horsewell Lane and West Avenue, in Wigston, have borrowed a police hand-held monitor to check on motorists.

On average, they have been catching about 20 motorists per hour travelling over the speed limit.

Meanwhile, children from two primary schools have been designing posters and learning about the dangers of speeding.

The double-edged offensive has been led by Wigston Pcso Helen Danson.

The hand-held radar gun has been used by a team of volunteers who have had to withstand abuse from motorists during their campaign.
