The improvement in ambulance response times reported in this newspaper today is most encouraging. The last few years have been challenging ones for our ambulance service following major reorganisation. There was a time when it was struggling to hit any of its targets.

The latest figures on how crews are performing would suggest that things are getting better. Paramedics are getting to more patients more quickly than ever before, according to the data, with crews actually beating Government response targets.

The improvement is driven by sophisticated new technology that allows the service to look at 999 call patterns and place their rapid response crews in areas most likely to need their help.
