G Allen (Mailbox, August 19) wrote that the Government hasn't got a clue on the long-term damage it is creating by concreting our once green and pleasant land.

I could not agree more with him on this point. He then seems to have had a memory lapse.

He wrote they have sold off our utility suppliers, our car manufacturers and many more.

It was the Thatcher Government which sold off these things.
