(From Leicester Mercury)
Recent mention of Batten Street, Leicester, which was mistakenly believed to be the site of the Aylestone tram terminus, caught the eye of Mr Neville Jackson, of Hinckley.
He writes: "I was born at 317 Aylestone Road, about 50 yards south of the Batten Street-Aylestone Road junction, in 1931.
"My mother had a drapery shop there.
"Batten Street was a favourite play area for the local children, being a quiet cul-de-sac.
"I recall the cabinet company, mentioned by Brian Frith, operating at the bottom of the street.
"On the opposite side of the street was a company making ducting from sheet metal, known as Smith Brothers.
