The medal he desperately wanted eluded him in the penultimate game of his career.

But Matt Sing was still full of pride at Hull FC's Challenge Cup final efforts, and having his played part in a Wembley final.

When the 2009 final comes around, Sing will be long retired from rugby and back home in Australia working as a fireman.

But he is convinced he will be watching Hull FC claim the trophy from his armchair.

The 33-year-old former Australian Test and State of Origin star has certainly earned his retirement, having enjoyed a remarkable career which has brought him countless trophies.

A win over St Helens would have been the icing on the cake for the winger.
