Karl Turner has been confirmed as Labour's next parliamentary candidate in Hull East.

The 37-year-old Hull-based barrister won a selection contest run by the constituency party earlier this year to replace John Prescott.

Now he has been officially confirmed as Labour candidate by a special panel from the party's National Executive Committee (NEC).

The final go-ahead from the NEC was required because, before the selection contest got underway, Mr Turner was not on Labour's list of approved parliamentary candidates.
