What has happened to manners in this country? Are there any polite staff working behind a till in any shop in the UK? I was at Tesco in Brislington recently and approached a till to buy a newspaper. Two members of staff were chatting to each other, and the one operating the till held out her hand to take my money without breaking off her conversation.
When I said "thank you" she glared at me and continued talking to her colleague. No please or thank you from her.
This attitude is prevalent in most shops, it seems to me. Customers are a nuisance, and are made to feel unwelcome.
Well, sorry to interrupt you, shop staff, and force you to pay attention to your work for a minute or two, but you are there to serve the public, you know.
