(From Bristol Evening Post)
A Court has thrown out a case saying that the man in the dock was unlawfully arrested by police.
Harvey Tadman, 42, was arrested after he tried to stop a motorist driving away from an accident.
He was later charged with obstructing the highway during the incident at a cycle rally, but the case was thrown out by Bristol magistrates who said he had done the right thing to try to stop the motorist leaving and that his arrest was therefore unlawful.
Mr Tadman, a nurse from Easton, complained to Avon and Somerset Constabularly about his treatment and an investigation found he was unlawfully arrested. The investigation also revealed that PCs Ryan Gregory and Gemma Gane had neglected their duty to arrest the motorist and interview Mr Tadman.
Mr Tadman's complaint that the police used excessive force arresting him was not upheld.
The incident happened at a 'Critical Mass' demonstration by cyclists in Bristol city centre in May last year. Three of the 120 riders were hit by cars during the rally. No one was seriously hurt but two of the cycles were damaged. Mr Tadman, who was watching the rally, saw a Mondeo knock a cyclist over. He stood in front of the car along with some other people, to stop him driving off.
