Residents pressing for improvements to a rundown Portishead hall celebrated after learning it is to get a GBP50,000 makeover.
People living in the West Hill area have been pressing North Somerset Council for more than a year to tidy up the Avon Way Hall, which is used by a number of community groups in the town.
Last year a special committee was set up by local residents, hall users and Portishead councillor David Jolley calling for improvements to be made to the building.
Residents were concerned the hall, which had become rundown and tatty over the years, would close unless improvements were made to attract more people to hire it.
Over the past several months, the committee has been working with North Somerset Council, which owns the building, to discuss improvements needed at the hall.
Authority bosses have now announced that a GBP50,000 programme of improvements at the hall, which is situated above the rank of shops at West Hill, will start next month.
