Carriers boost Latin freighter flights
In August, a new freighter operator entered the air cargo market between North America, the Caribbean and Central America.
AMX Cargo, a subsidiary of Mexican air cargo outfit Aeromexpress, launched its first flights out of its Miami base to San Juan and Santo Domingo. Using B767-200 freighter aircraft leased from ABX Air, it serves the destinations three times a week. Service to Costa Rica and Guatemala followed later in August.
Unlike other markets, such as Asia to North America or Europe to North America, Latin American business has held up relatively well, said Joe Reedy, vice president of sales at American Airlines Cargo.
