It's been said that a good discussion is like a miniskirt: short enough to sustain interest and long enough to cover the subject. With that in mind, we keep the surprisingly long history of miniskirts as brief as the garment itself.
5400 B.C.: The approximate creation date of figurines of women in miniskirts found by archaeologists in Siberia.
33: Percentage of England's population under age 20 when designer and boutique owner Mary Quant popularized the miniskirt there in the 1960s.
50: Percentage of the United States population under 25 at that time.
1966: Year the British Society for the Preservation of the Miniskirt protested a Christian Dior show that featured a return to long coats and dresses.
23: Actress Lynn Redgrave's age when she was nominated for an Academy Award for 1966's Georgy Girl, the tagline of which was "The wildest thing to hit the world since the miniskirt!"
