Downsized FMC? It depends
The Federal Maritime Commission's hearing before a House maritime committee on June 19 covered a wide range of subjects, from antitrust immunity to employee morale. Rep. Howard Coble, R-N.C., noted that commission membership had dropped to three since commissioners had been before the panel in April. He asked how things were working out with two vacancies on the commission. "Since you're apparently operating effectively with three, should we stick with three, or go back to five?" Coble asked. Commissioner Harold Creel Jr. drew one of the few laughs of the afternoon. "As long as it's this three, we're fine," Creel said.
