The new kid at Calvin Klein wins with his minimalist fall collection. Why Francisco Costa might be the Mies van der Rohe of the runway.
Calvin Klein is the king of minimalism, and now Francisco Costa, the Brazilian who became creative director at Calvin Klein Collection for Women five years ago, has his own ideas of what minimalism looks like. Using structure rather than jewels or appliques, Costa and a small new breed of less-is-more converts are creating a fresh sense of femininity. In his fall collection, the A-line is the new hourglass, and a decoration is a tiny Swarovski crystal embedded in a laser-cut flap, "like a computer chip."
