If you had asked Heather Allison, Deidre Sully, and Kathleen McNary to recommend a mascara two months ago, they would have looked dazed and confused--their focus was on lengthening their calf muscles, not their eyelashes. That's why now was the time to whisk them from the gym to the makeup chair. "I think of this makeover as a marathon," says makeup artist Mally Roncal, creator of Mally Beauty. "The makeup part is like that last little gulp of Gatorade before the finish--the pick-me-up they desperately need after working so hard for so long."
Heather Allison, University fund-raiser
MAKEUP LESSON: "For Heather's new daytime look, I wanted to put the focus on her beautiful green eyes, so I lined them with navy blue shadow," says Roncal. "I traced along the inner rims of her top and bottom lids as well as along the top lash lines. I really wanted that flash of color to stand out, so I kept the rest of her face neutral: bronze shadow on her lids, apricot blush on the apples of her cheeks, and shiny coral gloss on her lips."
ALLISON'S REACTION: "I asked for some fresher colors in my makeup routine, and I definitely got that--without looking like a clown. I absolutely loved the orangey lip gloss, which I never thought I'd be able to wear with my red hair. Since the photo shoot, I've been practicing everything Mally taught me, and I was able to re-create the entire look for a friend's wedding."
