Byline: --KATE SULLIVAN
Blige earned her title, "the Queen," by blending hip-hop with soul. Her fashion might also deserve a royal honor: Few women can combine class and flash as pitch-perfectly as Blige. Despite declaring otherwise, she clearly likes a little drama, in the form of a floor-length fur and a candy-colored leather jacket or two. Her bright white cocktail dress and animal-print gown highlight her curves, thanks in part to deep necklines, while an emerald-colored gown--a departure from her usual muted tones--has a regal quality. Blige's accessories are the source of much of her star power: Her ears hold almost as much gold as her Grammy shelf, and her fur-topped boots take slim-cut jeans to new levels of fabulosity.
Golden Girl
Blige has experimented with long hair and a gamine pixie, but one thing sticks: "She really likes the blonde," says her hairstylist and colorist Kimberly Kimble. "It makes her skin look brighter and warmer." In addition to tweaking the length of her current bob (and switching between blunt and sideswept bangs), Blige mixes in accessories: "She is a hat person," says Kimble. "I love the beret with the bob--very Parisian. It's a great look that she carries off so well."
