Soon after we judged the LawnBott robotic mower Not Acceptable because its blade still rotated after we lifted the mower off the ground, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled it. CONSUMER REPORTS' tests of the mower, published in the May 2008 issue, found that the blade kept spinning until we lifted the mower beyond roughly 45 degrees, which is enough space for a foot or hand to be cut. Kyodo America Industries, distributor of the machine, reported one person receiving minor cuts after lifting the mower.
The recalled mower was sold at Kyodo America dealers nationwide from January 2006 through December 2007 for $1,750 to $2,750. If you own one, don't use it. Go to www.lawnbott.com for information.
