MANILA, Sep 1 Asia Pulse - The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) has implemented an administrative order (AO) to heighten its effort in averting a possible epidemic brought by the joint burden of tuberculosis (TB) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
The DOH-AO No. 2008-02, which was signed by Secretary Francisco Duque III early this month, focuses on the policies and guidelines in the collaborative approach of TB and HIV prevention control.
The order noted that its was issued with the end in view of decreasing the burden of TB among people living with HIV and the burden of HIV and TB among TB patients.
The DOH said TB and HIV co-infection is a serious challenge to its control program since HIV weakens the immune system and people with TB are at very high risk of developing the TB disease.
