Yves Saint Laurent died at the age of 71 on June 1 in his Paris home after a long battle with brain cancer. "He died in my arms," said longtime friend and muse Betty Catroux. Pierre Berge, his lifelong partner and the man who built the YSL dream into a fashion empire, said the designer didn't suffer as he stopped breathing at 11:10 P.M. His survivors--his mother, Lucienne Mathieu Saint Laurent, and sisters, Brigitte Bastian and Michele Levasseur--had bid him au revoir earlier.
