Designers and models join forces at an open forum supporting healthful practices in the fashion industry. William Norwich takes a front-row seat.
On a boiling-hot afternoon, Michael Kors and Coco Rocha gathered around a pitcher of icy lemonade at Bobo in Greenwich Village. Later that same day, they were the keynote speakers at an event for the Council of Fashion Designers of America Health Initiative, formed last year in response to the alarming dietary practices of young models here and abroad.
"I love what I do for a living, but I hate having my picture taken," Michael confided, adding he might not feel this way if he were Steve McQueen, a favorite style icon, or even Ryan Phillippe. Unlike Michael, Coco--whose job, after all, is having her picture taken--gets nervous speaking in front of large groups.
"But, Coco, you've got the personality to stop a room of 1,200 people."
"How many people?" She was panicked.
"I mean at the shows, not today. There will be only a couple hundred people," Michael said consolingly.
