A new national study has confirmed that the gender salary gap still exists for faculty in academia.
The study, "Pay Inequities for Recently Hired Faculty, 1988-2004" found that women and men generally begin their faculty careers at comparable salaries, with the exception of those working at research universities. Women there face a 9% salary gap favoring men.
