This attractive collection of five original duets by Nancy Lau contains some fresh and delightful four-hand music for intermediate students. Primo and secondo parts are roughly equally difficult, and both are musically satisfying and very pianistic. The pieces evoke a variety of moods and styles, and the writing is imaginative, with harmonic and rhythmic interest throughout.

The music is simple but well crafted, and the character of each piece fits well its descriptive title. In "Travelin' Train," the ostinato bass keeps things moving, beneath a jaunty, syncopated melody, punctuated by blasts from the train whistle. Occasional lines of text interspersed throughout the score, such as "The train is chuggin' along.... " enhance the programmatic effect. "Starlight Lullaby" is dreamy and flowing, with pleasant harmonies. ...
