This is the first volume of a series that piano teachers will want to have in their libraries. One could think of it as a 21st-century version of Frances Clark's Contemporary Piano Literature. Helen Marlais, editor of the series, commissioned the works, as Clark did many of the pieces in her collection, to add accessible modern literature to the standard teaching repertoire.
The pieces in the first volume are similar in difficulty to easier works in Kabalevsky's 24 Pieces for Children, Op. 39 (Levels 1-2 according to the grading system set forth in Jane Magrath's Pianist's Guide to Standard Teaching and Performance Literature).
