As a teacher/performer cellist, I am always delighted to find works of the 20th/21st century that are accessible to the performer and audience alike. This work seems to fit that category.
Lowell Liebermann was born and educated in New York City. He received bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees from the Juilliard School of Music. This is his third cello sonata. His first sonata, written in 1978, received Honorable Mention at the MTNA National Composition Contest in 1985. Sonata No. 3 was premiered in Fort Worth, Texas in 2006 at the Modern Art Museum with Andres Diaz, cello, and the composer at the piano.
