TAIPEI, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - The government will work toward achieving negative growth in terms of energy consumption by government agencies and public schools, with the goal of cutting consumption by 7 percent over a seven-year period, the Bureau of Energy under the Ministry of Economic Affairs said Thursday.
The effort is expected to help the country conserve 900 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 573,000 metric tons over seven years, according to a report delivered by the bureau during a weekly Cabinet meeting.
Yeh Hui-ching, head of the bureau, pointed out that electricity consumption by government agencies and public schools increased by only 0.16 percent last year.
