CANBERRA, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - The economy is drawing significant benefits from the building and construction industry having posted sharp productivity gains over the past few years, a new report says.

The Australian Building and Construction Commission today released its 2008 productivity report card, in which it says there had been gains across the entire industry.

This includes a 7.3 per cent productivity gain in commercial building relative to residential building since 2004, and a 10 per cent increase in labour productivity in the construction industry.

There was also a 13.6 per cent increase in multifactor productivity in the construction industry over the four years to 2005/06; and a 12.2 per cent increase in non-residential ...
