Big-time college sports are generally money-losing enterprises and are becoming more so each year, according to recent stats released by the NCAA.
The median loss for all 119 Division I-A programs in 2006 was $7.26 million, although 16 schools gained an average of $4.3 million. However, the average of schools with a negative net revenue was almost $9 million, suggesting a widening gap between the "haves" and "have-nots" in football.
