In the Inside Track of THE NEW AMERICAN dated January 8, 2007, I read how government-issued nickel and copper coinage was costing too much to mint. The article informed us that the penalty for melting down the pennies and nickels would result in a $10,000 fine and/or five years in jail! Just for debasing coins that belong to us! At least I thought that those coins were mine as a tangible fruit of my labor. They certainly were worth more than paper money or the silverclad quarters, half dollars, and dollars!
