I am disappointed in you for publishing the article "Top-level Torture" (June 9 issue) by Becky Akers. I'm labeling it intentionally misleading, unless you can clarify questions found in the article.
Torture is generally described as the infliction of excruciating pain. Sleep deprivation, RAP music, bright lights, living in cold cells, and waterboarding may be abuses, but they are not torture. The things that might be considered torture are presented as questions, hoping readers will assume that we actually commit these acts.
You need to clarify; do we in fact actually "slap & kick," "punch or slap," "beat a naked man while freezing him," "crush a man's fingers," "crush testicles of children," ...
