CHICAGO -- Botulinum toxin type A is an effective preventive therapy for headache pain in a variety of patients with primary headache disorder, according to a poster presented at the annual meeting of the American Headache Society.
The open-label, retrospective study included 271 patients with migraine or tension-type headaches. "Our study also shows Botox causes fewer side effects than many of the standard medications," Dr. Andrew M. Blumenfeld, principal investigator and chief of neurology at Kaiser Permanente San Diego, said in a statement.
