A major exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art this summer, Art of the Royal Court: Treasures in Pietre Dure from the Palaces of Europe, explores the wealth and scope of hardstone carving and mosaic inlay known as commessiti pietre ture by presenting magnificent works of art created for the princely courts of Europe between the sixteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
