After a robber was wounded in a shooting at a liquor store, CBS5.com reported that over a 24-hour period in Oakland, California, beginning on Wednesday, April 17, "there were also 14 strong-arm robberies in the city." The robberies typify what store owners in the Oakland area have been dealing with for a while. SFGate.com reported after the same shooting incident: "The shooting comes at a time of heightened concern over robberies in the East Bay. Police in Oakland, Emeryville, and Berkeley are investigating a series of eight takeover robberies at restaurants over the past month." So it comes as little surprise that the store owners are fighting back.
In the shooting incident referred to at both websites, two men entered Wah Fay liquor store at about 9:30 p.m. on April 18.
