Respect for old glory.(THE GOODNESS OF AMERICA)(Brief article)
When Jeffrey Sahli started eighth grade at Evergreen Middle School in Colorado last fall, he was somewhat disenchanted about the lack of respect shown to the U.S. flag, which was faded and worn.
"I thought the flag wasn't being treated with flag etiquette. I thought I needed to do that," Jeffrey told the Rocky Mountain News. "I wanted to serve my country and I thought, heck, I'll start fight here."
He obtained permission from the principal to take charge of the U.S. and Colorado flags, which he raises each morning and lowers each afternoon. He folds each flag properly and makes sure they are taken down during inclement weather.
Susan Roy, an Evergreen parent, noticed the young patriot while driving her own son to school. She told the News: "Jeff would be out there--rain or shine--it didn't matter. He just wasn't taking it down, throwing it over his shoulders and taking it inside. He was very purposeful about it."
