OSAKA, July 1 Asia Pulse - Ahead of mass production of household fuel cells next year, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. (TSE:6752) has joined forces with three city gas companies to secure stable supplies of hydrogen and to set up sales channels, The Nikkei learned Monday.

Although there are many firms developing such systems, Matsushita is the first to take specific steps like moving to establish a sales network. The fuel cells generate electricity by combining hydrogen with oxygen.

The Panasonic brand manufacturer partnered with Tokyo Gas Co. (TSE:9531), which has already been developing the fuel cells with Matsushita, as well as with third-ranked Toho Gas Co. (TSE:9533) and No. 4 Saibu Gas Co. (TSE:9536). Together, the three supply roughly 30 per cent of the nation's households.
