TOKYO, July 1 Asia Pulse - Toyota Motor Corp. (TSE:7203) will begin manufacturing the hybrid version of the Camry sedan in China in 2010, aiming to jump-start sales of environmentally friendly cars there in anticipation of growing demand.
The Japanese automaker plans to produce 10,000 of the cars a year at Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co., its joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. in the southern province of Guangdong.
Toyota has been making and selling the Prius hybrid in China since 2005, but 2007 sales stalled at around 1,000, or one-third of its target.
