MANILA, July 1 Asia Pulse - The Philippines' Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno said the high court is in the process of creating the country's first ever small case claims court.
For the past few months, a technical working group of the SC has been working diligently to draft rules and forms to govern small claims cases in the Philippines.
This is a pilot project by the SC and Office of the Court Administrator (OCA) to increase access to justice for Filipinos who cannot afford a lawyer, Chief Justice Puno stated.
The project is backed up by the United States Aid for International Agency (USAID) and the American Bar Association (ABA). The chief magistrate said rules for this proposed court have been simplified so that people without legal training, especially litigants, can understand them and judges can render decisions on the same day the case is heard.
