Pro-life champion Cardinal Alfonso Lopez Trujillo died on Saturday, April 19, 2008. Cardinal Trujillo was appointed president of the Pontifical Council for the Family by John Paul II in November 1990. He served diligently in this important position until the time of his death.
During his tenure as president of the Pontifical Council, he constantly stressed the need to respect the dignity of all innocent human life and spoke and wrote frequently on the life issues.
Archbishop Alfonso Lopez Trujillo was the youngest Cardinal to be elevated to that position by the late Pope John Paul II.
