The May 12 article "The Story of the Pueblo" should have provided more information about the events leading up to the capture of the ship.
For example, before leaving port, the Naval commander asked Pueblo's Commanding Officer Bucher if there was anything he needed. Bucher asked for a means to destroy, if needed, the cryptographic equipment and also that he would like someone "qualified" to operate the .50-caliber guns as the only Gunners Mate (3rd class) assigned to the ship had no experience with the weapon. The admiral told Bucher to either take the ship out or be relieved of duty.
