Could fat be treated with a laser or some other kind of no7ninvasive delivery of energy from the skin surface? To reduce fat without damaging the epidermis and dermis, we face some difficult challenges. One of which is having to go several millimeters down and, in a very selective fashion, destroy the fat while sparing the overlying dermis.

Despite the challenges, Dr. R. Rox Anderson, director of the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, has figured out how it can be done--to some degree.
