The Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biomedical Research is the most prestigious award in all of American medicine and brings a $500,000 stipend. This year's winners were biomedical scientists Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn from the University of California at San Francisco and Dr. Joan Steitz from Yale University CT. Since 2001 the previous 11 winners have been men.
