Expert advice on dressing for hot weather, planning an adventure vacation, and more.
An Interview With Tracy Reese
Reese is a New York City--based fashion designer whose line, Plenty by Tracy Reese, is worn by Eva Longoria Parker and Hilary Duff.
The key thing I do in summer is avoid all synthetic fabrics. I limit my wardrobe to natural fibers--cotton and silk--and I choose stylish but comfortable basics that I punch up with accessories such as a chunky necklace or a thick cherry red belt.
Lighten up. Warm weather is a great excuse to wear bright color. Mix one or two vibrant shades, such as yellow or turquoise, with a light neutral, like khaki. You also can't go wrong wearing white in the summer; it looks so crisp and professional, and it reflects light, so you stay cool even when the sun is really strong.
Show a little skin. Don't reveal too much just because it's hot outside. Never show your midthighs, your stomach, a lot of cleavage, or too much of your back. Aim for balance: If you are showing off your legs, wear longer sleeves; if you are wearing a sleeveless scoop-neck top, choose pants or a knee-length skirt.
