MTNA President Gail Berenson, NCTM, presented Carola Grindea with a Citation for Leadership April 13, at a weekend-long celebration for pianist Ronald Stevenson in London.
"It seems very fitting for Music Teachers National Association to present a Citation for Leadership to Carola Grindea," stated Berenson. "Her accomplishments as a performer, teacher, lecturer, author and founder of two international professional music organizations European Piano Teachers Association in 1978 and the International Society for the Study of Tension in Performance in 1981--has made a significant impact on the field of piano teaching worldwide and makes her a very deserving recipient of this prestigious recognition."
Grindea was originally recognized by MTNA with the citation at the EPTA Conference in Novi Sad, Serbia, on November 2, 2007. However, she was unable to attend the conference, and the honor was accepted on her behalf by her daughter Nadia Lasserson.
Grindea was given the citation in recognition of her singular work as a unifier of music teachers around the world. She is internationally renowned for her work in raising standards in the fields of piano teaching and performing. With her accomplishments as a performer, teacher, lecturer, author and founder of two international professional music organizations, Grindea has made a significant impact on the field of piano teaching. As a result of her passion and groundbreaking work, Grindea has founded two international professional societies: the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA) and the International Society for Study of Tension in Performance (ISSTIP).
